Is Your Dream Home Haunted? (In Minnesota, The Seller Doesn’t Have To Say👻)
Let's talk about ghosts!
Did you know Minnesota has a real estate law that actually mentions paranormal activity? True story!
When you buy a home here, the seller fills out a disclosure statement. This is where they share anything they know that could significantly affect the home - think a wet basement, an aging roof, or foundation issues.
But there's a short list of things Minnesota law says sellers are not required to disclose. And right there in the statute, alongside a few more serious items, is "perceived paranormal activity." (Yes, those are the real words.)
So, what does that mean for you?
If the previous owners swear the cabinet doors swing open on their own every Halloween, they don't have to put it in writing.
But what if you really want to know?
You can ask! Sellers don't have to volunteer it, but you and your agent are always welcome to ask questions. Chatting with the neighbors is another great way to hear the local legends. (Every block has one.)
And honestly? A creaky stair or a door that never quite latches usually just means the house has some character. The things that really matter, like the furnace, the roof, and the windows, are exactly what your home inspection is for.
Ghost or no ghost, the right home should feel like yours the moment you walk in.
Have a spooky house story of your own, or want help finding a home with just the right amount of character? Let's chat!
